hey guys! as you probably know (possibly may have forgotten), harvey milk day is coming up this wednesday. harvey milk was one of the first and definitely one of the most important lgbt politicians ever and he did a lot of cool things! at least, before he was assassinated (for reasons totally unrelated to his sexuality, i’m pretty sure).

anyway, you should wear purple on wednesday in memory of harvey and to show your support of lgbt rights! if you don’t have any purple clothes, don’t freak out or anything because there are countless other ways you can honor his memory and show your support. i mean, in terms of advocacy, this is not a huge, unforgivable thing.

but it would be really cool to see like half the school wearing purple, right?

so if you have purple anything and remember to wear it, that would be awesome! and i’ll give you a high-five or something.

I am excited to release a rough version of my children’s storybook on trans*gender and gender neutral kids. Since I am cisgender I would much appreciate some feedback to anything I’m doing wrong. I really want to do this right. I want this to be stepping stone book for children and parents to talk about this.

Tufts University has adopted a new healthcare plan that includes benefits for transgender students, making Tufts the 37th university or college in the country to offer health insurance of this kind, according to university officials.

EROS is T-Wood’s home…if you can help, forward, reblog it would mean a lot!

Just click on the source below for the direct indiegogo.com link or search for EROS 21.

EROS is one of very few sex clubs in the world that is a welcoming space for trans men looking to cruise other men. In a day and age where most men cruise online and through phones, it’s value as a place of education & exploration, as a community center, and a sober cruising space cannot be emphasized enough. I’ve worked here for about 4 years and in that time I’ve seen some incredible art shows, drag performances, open mic nights. I’ve met people from all walks of life from around the world. Coming to EROS from a town where I was the only trans guy around (that I knew) who wanted to hook up with other men was truly transformative and affirming (and hot!) experience and I know that this is an important & special place for many people. Consider donating if you can!

The State Senate in Nevada voted on Monday to repeal the state’s ban on same-sex marriage, but more impressive is Sen. Kelvin Atkinson, the state senator who bravely spoke about his sexual orientation on the Senate floor.

“I’m black. I’m gay,” he said Monday, according to the Las Vegas Sun.“I know this is the first time many of you have heard me say that I am a black gay male.”

Atkinson, who was reportedly very emotional, added that his father, who remarried a woman of another race, would have been barred from doing so earlier in American history. He also argued that establishing marriage equality for same-sex couples would not threaten heterosexual marriages.

“If this hurts your marriage, then your marriage was in trouble in the first place,” he said.

This is reportedly the first time a state legislative body has voted to repeal an anti-gay-marriage law, and there are still many more legislative steps before repeal is possible — even years. But this is definitely a good place to start. Props to Sen. Atkinson for his compelling contribution.

Ashley Del Valle, a 38-year-old transgender woman from New York, was arrested in Savannah last week for allegedly exposing her breasts. But after her arrest, a nurse examined her genitals and decided that she was male, and Del Valle was placed in a holding cell in the men’s prison ward.

She was in custody for three days, often alone in various cells, before her family could bail her out. During that time, she says she experienced a slew of harassment and slurs from deputies.

The chief deputy at the jail says his employees followed existing protocol to keep Del Valle in a private cell, but did admit to misgendering her.

“First off, Ashley is still a man,” chief deputy Roy Harris told WSAV. “I think he’s had some surgery, breast implants. But technically he is still a male which poses a problem. We do have a policy in place. Typically we put them in isolation.” …

Del Valle is considering legal action, which might have some weight, especially given that Del Valle was arrested for a charge that can only be committed by a woman — since a man exposing his nipples does not qualify as indecent exposure — but then jailed as a man. Del Valle also contests the claim that she exposed herself at all; she told WSAV says she was just wearing a sheer top, and says she did not argue with the arresting officer, despite also being charged with disorderly conduct.

A teacher at an Ohio Catholic school was fired recently after her mother’s obituary referenced that she had a same-sex partner.

Carla Hale told The Columbus Dispatch that when she returned to work at Bishop Watterson High School last month after her mother’s death, administrators showed her a letter than a parent had written anonymously to the Roman Catholic diocese of Columbus, “appalled that Hale had listed her female partner’s name in an obituary,” as the newspaper put it. Hale, who had taught physical education at the school for 19 years, was fired a few weeks later, and she says the reason was the revelation of her relationship.

Hale has filed a grievance under the terms of her labor contract, seeking reinstatement, and is considering other legal options, her attorney said. A diocesan official declined comment to the Dispatch, citing confidentiality of personnel matters, but the paper notes that the contract states teachers can be fired for “immorality” or “serious unethical conduct.”
